From Families in Their Own Words
Lam Chi-Wai
Son of resident, Tai Wai
My mother has been at Tung Blossom for over a year now. What struck me immediately was how naturally she settled in β far more quickly than I'd expected. The staff know her by name, they remember what she likes to eat, and they call me to share small things I would never have thought to ask about.
I visit often. There are never any locked doors, and the atmosphere always feels calm without being dull. It's the kind of place I hadn't believed existed in Hong Kong until I saw it.

Tang Ching-Yee
Daughter of resident, Ma On Shan
We initially arranged a seasonal stay for my father while I was abroad. By the time I returned, he was so settled β so genuinely at ease β that we didn't want to disrupt it. He's been there full-time now for eight months.
The written account they gave us at the end of the three-week stay was unexpectedly moving. They noticed things about him I hadn't seen in years.

Wong Pak-Hing
Son of resident, Sha Tin
The food is the first thing my mother mentions every time I call. She is very particular about her meals, and at every other place we looked at, that was a concern. Here, it isn't. The kitchen clearly knows what they're doing.
The art sessions have also been a surprise. She was hesitant at first, but now she looks forward to Tuesdays. That says a great deal.

Chan Lai-Kuen
Art Afternoons participant, Fo Tan
My mother-in-law attends the Art Afternoons twice a week and it has changed how she spends her days. Before, she had a lot of empty time. Now she talks about what she made, and sometimes she brings small pieces home. It's a gentle thing, but it matters a great deal.
The tea and conversation at the start of each session is what she seems to enjoy most, actually.

Leung Hoi-Shan
Daughter-in-law of resident, Kowloon Tong
We were nervous about this decision, as most families are. We visited three different homes before coming to Tung Blossom. The difference was immediately apparent β not in the dΓ©cor, but in how the staff spoke about the residents, and how relaxed the residents seemed.
It's been six months, and that feeling has not changed. If anything, it's grown.

Fong Ka-Yee
Seasonal Stay, Tsuen Wan
We arranged a three-week stay for my aunt while we sorted through some family logistics. She arrived nervous, but by the end of the first week she was asking whether she could extend. The home has a very particular quality to it β unhurried, as if time moves differently there.
The written account we received at the end was something we read together as a family. Very thoughtful.

Three Journeys in Depth
A closer look at what changed for three different families who came to Tung Blossom with different needs.
Mrs. Mak, 79 β Blossom Residence
Arrived February 2024
The Situation
Mrs. Mak's family had been caring for her at home for two years. She was well, but increasingly isolated β spending most of each day alone while family members worked. Her appetite had declined and she seemed withdrawn.
What Changed
Within her first month at Tung Blossom, her appetite returned β the kitchen adapted to her preferences within days. She joined the afternoon art sessions hesitantly and, over the following weeks, became one of its most engaged participants.
A Year Later
Her daughter visits twice a week and describes seeing a mother who is, in some ways, more like herself than she has been in years. Staff note her enjoyment of group tea time, which she now helps to organise each afternoon.
Mr. Poon, 83 β Seasonal Stay β Blossom Residence
Arrived October 2024
The Situation
Mr. Poon's family was uncertain. He had strong opinions about not wanting to leave his neighbourhood. They booked a seasonal stay as a way of seeing how he responded, without making a permanent commitment.
What Changed
By the end of the second week, he was asking about the meals by name and had developed a morning routine with two other residents. He mentioned, unprompted, that the home "didn't feel like a home for old people."
What Followed
He chose to stay on. The written account his family received at the end of the three weeks β full of small, specific observations β helped everyone feel that the decision was being made with good information. He has been in Blossom Residence since November 2024.
Mrs. Yip, 75 β Art & Expression Afternoons
Joined September 2024
The Situation
Mrs. Yip lives at home with her son's family. She is healthy and independent, but struggled with the transition from working life and found afternoons particularly long and empty.
What Changed
The Art Afternoons gave her two fixed points in the week she could look forward to. The first session was quiet for her β she mostly observed. By the third, she was arriving early and helping set out materials for others.
Five Months Later
Her son describes a marked improvement in her mood at home. She talks about the group members by name. A small watercolour painting she made in October now hangs in the family living room.
